Nanaimo is a medium sized city, centrally located on Vancouver Island in beautiful British Columbia. A thriving community, often described as the hub city, Nanaimo offers easy & central access to all parts of the Island including the shortest float plane/Helijet flights to the mainland. Anything you and your family may be looking or, Nanaimo has it all. Real estate continues to remain affordable with family homes averaging approx. $739,000 (VIREB, July 2021) and low traffic delays coupled with multiple access routes around the city continue to be an advantage for residents. As a coastal community, Nanaimo boasts mild winters, with easy access to mountain adventures, and year-round golfing and sailing. Even with a relatively mild climate, Nanaimo experiences the beauty of all four seasons making this the perfect community to start/raise a family while maintaining a work/life balance and/or enjoy a Locum work vacation.
“Nanaimo… is the gateway to our coastal playground where one can golf, ski, hike and kayak on the same day, and sail the next!”

The community boasts a diverse range of educational opportunities, including Private, Christian, French Immersion, Montessori, Community Colleges and Vancouver Island University. There are outdoor and indoor playgrounds for the little tykes, as well as an active Parks and Recreation centre offering a variety of activities for both children and families. PHYSICIANS ARE NANAIMO’S HEARTBEAT
Nanaimo’s vibrant medical community has an array of Physician opportunities available. Family Practice clinic vacancies range from solo practitioner offices to large complex-care and multi- disciplinary teaching facilities. Full-time, part-time, or locum terms are available. Basically it is YOUR choice, how long and however YOU wish to practice! If you want to mix up your work, we also have a variety of prospects outside of the office as well: from supporting the UBC Residency Program in Nanaimo through Mentoring or becoming involved with the Academic planning to Sports Medicine and Obstetrics or Corrections, Mental Health and Substance Use to Family Planning and Community Health Advocacy, Nanaimo has it all.
Currently there are also openings with our local hospitalist group at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, which provides primary hospital services to the residents in the region with 224 + 12 ICU (Closed ICU) Acute Beds and Full scope specialist & subspecialists services (minus invasive Cardiology and Neurosurgery) available.
We deeply value the high levels of knowledge, respect, and expertise our local Physicians bring to Nanaimo’s healthcare system and also want to recognize the struggles they are up against to find time for family, friends, or meeting new people inside and outside of the office.
In order to provide everyone a chance to enjoy the fun and social aspects of our everyday lives, we work with our community and stakeholders to increase engagement and connections by organizing annual social events, where you can meet and mingle with new to town Physicians and other medical professionals or colleagues you simply may not have had a chance to meet yet. Come for a visit and join in on some fun to let yourself and your family decide if you ever want to leave.
“Living in Nanaimo provides a community of colleagues to work and play with and a natural landscape to explore.”
